Blood culture results: Streptococcus pneumoniae (pneumococcus):

Ceftriaxone IV 2g bd for 14 days
Ceftriaxone must not be mixed with calcium containing intravenous solutions and must not be given simultaneously with calcium containing solutions, even via different infusion lines. See link for further information including advice on calcium containing TPN.

Antibiotic therapy may change on microbiology advice in light of further culture and sensitivity results.

Prophylaxis of close contacts not required.
